February 24, 2020, Weekly Update

As we continue to monitor the Province’s guidelines to ensure ERSB is doing it’s part to protect the public, the below changes to our services remain in place. While we appreciate that these temporary changes may be inconvenient, we are happy to be part of the continued efforts to reduce the spread of Covid-19.

We are receiving many concerns regarding illegal dumping from individuals and communities in the Eastern Region. Please do your part to keep this province not only safe but beautiful. Hold onto your items as we will resume services as soon as possible.

Please check back regularly as we will be updating this page and our website as guidelines from the Chief Medical Officer of Health and the Department of Health and Community Services change (https://www.gov.nl.ca/covid-19/). We look forward to resuming services.

Recycling:

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the return to Alert Level 5, the Eastern Regional Service Board is taking measures to proactively help prevent the spread of the virus. The ERSB will be enacting solutions for our contractors to increase social distancing.

All recycling in the Eastern Region will be suspended for two weeks. The provision of services will be reviewed in two weeks. This difficult decision has been made to ensure weekly garbage collection is maintained, to help protect our contractors, and to help ensure proper social distancing requirements are met.

Bulk waste collection:

Bulk is scheduled to begin in March but will be evaluated as conditions change.

Waste Recovery Facilities:

To reduce the risk of exposing staff and residents to the virus, we have made the decision to close Waste Recovery Facilities until further notice. This applies to the Bay Bulls, Bell Island, Cavendish, Old Perlican, Harbour Grace, Placentia, Renews-Cappahayden, St. Joseph’s, Sunnyside, Clarenville and Whitbourne Waste Recovery Facilities.

We understand that these closures are challenging for many of our customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and will return to normal operations as soon as it is safe to do so and will provide regular updates.
Note that the Robin Hood Bay Landfill Site and the Clarenville Waste Transfer Stations will remain open for our commercial customers.

St. John’s Location:

There is nothing more important to us than our customers, our communities, and our people. Health and safety is always a priority for our teams, now more than ever as the COVID-19 pandemic evolves. In response to new public health advisory, effective February 11, 2021, we will be closing our office at 255 Majors Path to the public for counter service.

If you are worried about paying your bill, we offer flexible payment options by phone and online. We continue to accept payment through Scotiabank, RBC, CIBC, TD, and BMO online banking or by cheque, money order, and credit card by telephone at 579-7960.

We are living in unprecedented times, requiring extraordinary efforts to address the situation and we appreciate your support as we navigate through this pandemic together. As the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, we will continue to monitor and provide updates.

The ERSB will continue to support all communities under our jurisdiction so we can continue to establish a waste management system that is affordable and that provides a tremendous service to all our communities.

Kindest regards,

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding and please stay safe.
