The past year has been both a busy and exciting time for Aquaforte, and we, as a Community are very proud of all we have managed to accomplish.

The Riverhead Road project has been completed at a cost of $46,000.00.  Hopefully this will eliminate the ice and water buildup on that portion or our local road system.

The Old Southern Shore road has been upgraded.

In December of 2018, Aquaforte erected its first ever Community Christmas Tree, followed by a social in the Town Hall. The event was well attended by members of the community who enjoyed a light lunch and some Christmas Carolling by the children in attendance as well as a heartwarming solo by Councillor Christopher Maher and musical accompaniment provided by the very talented Jim Ryan. Of course no Christmas gathering would be complete without a visit from Santa who handed out loot bags to young and old alike.

In joint partnership with the Aquaforte Improvement Committee, we now have a new park located next to the Town Hall. It has been named “Our Lady of Fatima Park” as it is situated on the site of the old Catholic Church with the same name. The park has been enhanced with picnic tables, donated benches and lounging chairs. A new gazebo has been erected and over the next few months we hope to make many more improvements.

A new committee aptly named The Our Lady of Fatima Park Committee was formed in March of 2019 and has been working hard to help raise funds to enhance the park for the enjoyment of our residents and visitors. They have been holding bi-weekly flea markets and have other fundraising events planned to further their efforts.

In May, 2019, the inside of the Hall was repainted to resemble Jelly Bean Row Houses, thanks to Debbie, Christopher, Marina, Ronnie Wheaton, Jerome and Algy for volunteering your time and effort to complete the project.

On June 30, 2019, Our Town Hall was officially named The Don Graham Community Centre in memory of Aquaforte’s first and longest serving Mayor. The ceremony was very well attended by family, friends and business associates of Don.  The new sign was unveiled by Don’s widow Elizabeth and 4 of their 5 sons. It was a very emotional time for the Community because Don was such a well-respected businessman, neighbour and friend to so many people and will be sorely missed for many years to come. The unveiling was followed by a reception, much reminiscing and some music provided by the Graham family.

We are in the process of getting a Memory Board to honour all the Aquaforte Veterans of both the First and Second World Wars, which will be erected in the Park. Thankfully every man who volunteered to go to war from this small Community returned home to their loved ones.

Unfortunately, due to seriously unsafe conditions a portion of Payne’s Road is now closed to all vehicular traffic. We hope to rectify this in the near future.
